Biologist Jobs in New York

A Biologist in the biotechnology industry performs research and development tasks to understand the complex biological processes involved in product development. They conduct lab experiments, analyze results, document findings, and present their conclusions. They collaborate with other scientists, engineers, and technicians to design and develop new technologies. Biologists also ensure compliance with regulatory standards and ethical guidelines. Important skills include problem-solving, critical thinking, data analysis, and strong communication skills. They must have hands-on experience with various lab equipment and biotechnological techniques. A solid understanding of molecular biology, cell biology, genetics, and biochemistry is crucial in this role. In addition to a bachelor's or master's degree in biology or a similar field, some positions may require specific certifications, such as Certified Biologist (CB) or Clinical Molecular Genetics (CMG).

Before becoming a Biologist, a person could have had roles in different capacities such as Laboratory Technician, Research Assistant, or Quality Assurance Specialist. As a Laboratory Technician, they would gain experience in conducting lab tests and maintaining lab equipment. As a Research Assistant, they would assist in various research projects, collecting data and contributing to the overall research process. Quality Assurance Specialists oversee the production process, ensuring products meet quality standards and regulations. These positions provide valuable experience and skill sets that are highly beneficial for a career as a Biologist in the biotechnology industry.
