Mitochondria in Motion, Inc. (MiM) is a St. Louis biotech R&D Co. established in 2019 to clinically advance and commercialize first-in-class mitofusin activators that improve mitochondrial function by correcting mitochondrial dysdynamism in genetic, traumatic and iatrogenic neurodegenerative diseases.

MiM's proprietary technology is small molecule activators of mitochondrial mitofusin proteins. This is a new class of compounds with a novel mechanism of action. MiM has licensed or optioned from its sister company, MEm, or Washington University in St Louis all existing IP for small molecule mitofusin activators, including US patents 11,026,904; 11,083,699; 11026904 and multiple pending applications.

MiM’s first disease target is Charcot-Marie-Tooth disease (CMT) 2A, caused by mutations of its drugs’ target, mitofusin (MFN) 2. Loss of MFN2 function suppresses mitochondrial fusion and trafficking. Because CMT2A has no disease-altering therapy, affected children suffer progressive neuromuscular degeneration and are typically non-ambulatory by age 20; disability is permanent. Other potential disease targets include amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), Huntington’s disease (HD), frontotemporal dementia (FTD), and chemotherapy-induced peripheral neuropathy (CIPN).

MiM laboratories are located in the Biogenerator BioSTL space at 4340 Duncan Ave in St. Louis, three blocks east of Washington University. MiM has two Phase II R42 research grants from NIH/NINDS totaling ~$3.8M. MiM also performs mitochondria-based contract laboratory work for other biotech firms.
