Postdoctoral Research Associate - Biogeochemistry
- Iowa State University
- Ames, Iowa
- Full Time
The Soil Biogeochemistry Lab is seeking an exceptional postdoctoral research associate to start in July 2025. We are offering a one-year postdoctoral position focused on soil organic matter, nitrogen and phosphorus dynamics in both nature and managed ecosystems. We also encourage the potential candidates who are enthusiastic about developing their own projects within these areas. This position will primarily be based in the Department of Ecology, Evolution, and Organismal Biology, and will involve close collaboration with other research groups. Our work will integrate field experiments, lab incubations and process-based models to elucidate the fundamental mechanisms through which biogeochemical and environmental factors impact soil carbon and nutrient dynamics. The candidate is expected to work both independently and collaboratively with faculty, postdoctoral fellows, and students at different levels. Responsibilities include supervising and training students in lab techniques and experiments, collecting and analyzing data, writing manuscripts for publication, and preparing presentations.
Required Minimum Qualifications:- Ph.D. in Environmental Science or a related field (on or before the start date)
- Demonstrated expertise in biogeochemistry, soil science, Agricultural ecosystem, or related fields
- Experience in field measurements of soil CO2 fluxes by using soil chamber system
- Experience in laboratory incubations and analysis of soil biogeochemical properties, including soil carbon fractionation and microbial community
- Experience with process-based modeling, statistical modeling, or machine learning
- A proven track record of research publications in high-quality peer-reviewed journals
