Biomedical Equipment Technician Dialysis Equipment Maintenance

Overview

The Biomedical Technician II (Biomed II) is responsible for the overall technical maintenance of dialysis facilities. Work involves the knowledge and ability to perform repairs and maintenance related to the equipment in the dialysis facility. The position exercises considerable judgment in applying professional knowledge in solving problems within established policies and practices. The Biomedical Technician II works closely with senior technical staff, taking direction from them and escalating questions and concerns.

**All full-time biomedical technicians are required to provide on-call coverage and will receive a weekly on-call stipend for this responsibility.

Key Responsibilities

1. Comply with all Company policies and procedures as well as federal, state, OSHA, and other agency regulations applicable to the position. Respect sensitivity of patient information and maintain HIPAA compliance.
2. Promote positive public relations with patients, their family members, guests, physicians, co-workers, hospital/facility personnel, outside agencies, and service providers. Use tactful and appropriate communications in all work-related interactions.
3. Timely perform all repairs and maintenance as related to medical equipment, water treatment systems, and associated systems.
4. Assure water used for dialysis meets AAMI requirements with daily monitoring and routine testing.
5. Complete and maintain accurate records and documentation as they apply to job requirements, assignments, and applicable regulations.
6. Understand and comply with policies and procedures for alternative water supplies.
7. Assist clinic staff in maintaining and controlling medical supply inventory.
8. Responsible for maintaining a clean and professional work area; may assist with physical plant maintenance as needed.
9. Assist in emergency procedures.
10. May be required to participate in IRC Technical Training program and pass any applicable competency exams.
11. Complete requirements for in-service training, other required training, and participate in staff meetings.
12. Conduct relevant in-services for facility staff as directed and provide training to clinical and technical staff on water treatment and equipment testing operations.
13. Follow all infection control procedures and wear appropriate personal protective equipment.
14. Participate in and complete all requirements for the facilitys QAPI program.
15. Use equipment, such as pallet jacks and lift gates, as needed and in accordance with safety protocols
16. Clean, disinfect, and perform basic maintenance on RO systems and distribution loops.
17. Participate in IRCs monthly inventory reporting using IRC current inventory management applications as needed.
18. Assist with Home programs by delivering home dialysis equipment, including Nxstage, pure flow equipment, assisting with PM exchanges, and HHD inventory management as needed and appropriate.
19. Independently handle the maintenance requirements of at least one or two facilities, depending on total number of dialysis machines, including adhering to PM and certification schedules.
20. Work with and manage outside vendors including scheduling and cost monitoring.
21. May participate in de novo clinics, relocations and closures.
22. Provide on-call coverage, including phone and in-person support, for critical biomedical needs outside normal business hours.
23. Perform other duties as requested by immediate supervisor and/or senior technical staff.

Required Education and Experience

• High School Diploma or equivalent.
• Experience in a medical/technical environment required.
• 12 months of biomedical experience in dialysis in the last two years preferred.
• A valid drivers license.
• Applicable Equipment Manufacturer Technician certificates.
• Factory Certification on HD machines or Water systems.
• Advanced knowledge of water treatment systems, repairs and maintenance such as re-beds, membrane replacement, pre-treatment head rebuild, and PVC plumbing.
• Basic understanding of accounting practices.
• Advanced understanding of regulatory requirements and laws that affect compliance, including having high level understanding of the state/federal survey process.
• Preferred Qualifications
• Bonent, NANT, CBMET or other state certifications preferred.
